OpenVPN Connect Vs OpenVPN For Android

OpenVPN Connect Vs OpenVPN For Android

OpenVPN Connect is the “official” app from the OpenVPN Inc. and is designed to be more user-friendly VPN users with little technical knowledge. It’s not as feature-rich as openvpn for Android, which is designed towards more advanced OpenVPN users.

Openvpn for Android is a no-cost and open-source client created openvpnandroid.com/secure-data-room-that-stimulates-fast-performance/ by Arne Schwabe which allows you to connect to any VPN service that supports the OpenVPN protocol. If your device doesn’t support the pre-configured VPN apps available in the Google Play Store, this is an excellent alternative. Setup is relatively easy. You just need to import your VPN profile files (the config files have an extension of.ovpn) which you can obtain from your provider’s website or by contact their live chat support team.

After you’ve added your profile, click on the server to connect. Once connected to the server, all Internet traffic is routed through a secure tunnel and sent to the chosen server by the application. The Status tab allows you to examine your connection’s information and status. The kill switch is enabled by default. It will disable your internet connection when the VPN tunnel is lost.

The app provides a per application VPN as well as an always-on option that automatically establishes an VPN connection whenever the app is opened, and it will continue running after your device has gone to sleep or switched networks. This feature, however, requires Android 7.0 and higher, and may drain your batteries more than usual.
